About The Position

The management services offered to our family of charter schools, allows us to collectively become a change agent and national leader in urban education as evidenced by student awareness of self, high academic achievement, positive school culture and community transformation wherever we serve. JOB GOAL: The Climate Specialist is responsible for assisting school staff in maintaining a climate conducive for learning. The Climate Specialist will monitor, track and support student behavior and enforce school and classroom rules in and out of the school building.

Requirements

  • Associate degree program at an accredited college or university or 60 credit hours in a matriculated status at an accredited college or university.
  • One year of full-time, paid or volunteer experience participating in community or schools developing or implementing conflict resolution programs.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Two years of paid urban school experience implementing conflict resolution programs.
  • Experience working in an urban school environment.
  • Acceptable criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status.
  • Bring a spirit of enthusiasm, energy, and multi-cultural awareness.
  • Possess strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Utilize proper discretion in dealing with confidential matters.
  • Work well without close supervision and with little direction.
  • Be able to solve problems independently and manage projects alone.
  • Be adaptable to performing under stress and when confronted with emergency situations.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate smooth transitions at the start and end of the school day.
  • Assist teachers in the establishment and execution of classroom rules and procedures that support teaching and learning.
  • Enforces the Code of Student Conduct and all school policies and procedures.
  • Attends workshops and professional development sessions on climate and behavior enhancing programs and initiatives.
  • Intervene to minimize potential conflicts between students to prevent escalation of situations.
  • Participate in the implementation of the School Climate Plan.
  • Reinforce appropriate behavior with individual students.
  • Monitor student behavior during unstructured time.
  • Facilitate outdoor activities before and after school hours.
  • Perform related work as required.
