Role description: Arcadis is seeking a Climate Adaptation Intern a to join our Water Management, Urban and Community Resiliency Team in San Francisco in May, 2026. With the support of one of the industry’s leading technical and professional staffs, this new team member will support a growing base of projects throughout the country with private, federal, state, and local government clients related to climate vulnerability assessment, climate adaptation, resilience planning, policy, project development, feasibility studies, engineering design, as well as project funding and implementation. The role offers an excellent opportunity to learn and grow professionally while working on a wide variety of projects alongside a dedicated and experienced staff. Role accountabilities: As a Climate Adaptation Intern, you will play a vital role in providing technical support for climate risk assessments, including tasks related to modeling physical climate risks for various asset portfolios and quantifying the benefits of adaptation measures to aid resilience planning, risk reporting, and investment prioritization efforts. You will support planning and engineering studies for a diverse and expanding client base, addressing areas such as coastal protection, risk assessment, stormwater management, groundwater, benefit-cost analysis, environmental and social impact analysis, and other resilience needs. Collaborating closely with integrated, multi-disciplinary teams of planners, engineers, scientists, economists, policy experts, and others, you will contribute to innovative solutions for complex challenges. Your responsibilities will also include reviewing and synthesizing academic and peer-reviewed research on climate impacts and risk quantification techniques, managing multiple projects simultaneously, and identifying cost-effective, technically feasible, and environmentally sound resilience actions. Additionally, you will participate in client and project development, assist with proposals and marketing materials, and support team research, product development, and thought leadership initiatives, making meaningful contributions to advancing climate adaptation strategies.

Requirements

  • 0-5 years’ experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Climate Sciences, Urban Planning, Economics, Public Policy, Engineering, Geology, Computer Science, or related quantitative field

Nice To Haves

  • Working towards Masters Degree in Climate Sciences, Urban Planning, Economics, Public Policy, Engineering, Geology, or related field
  • Familiarity with statistical analysis including descriptive statistics, probability theory, and regression analysis.
  • One or more of the following:
  • Experience interpreting or working with IPCC Global Climate Models or other regional climate data products (e.g. CalAdapt, EPA Climate Indicators)
  • Proficiency with Python, R, or related coding languages
  • Proficiency with ESRI GIS software, specifically ArcGIS Pro
  • Experience with dashboarding software such as PowerBI, Tableau, or KQL
  • Experience working in climate change impact analysis, adaptation planning, or the flood risk resilience fields
