About The Position

The Climate Fellow position at the Santa Clara County Office of Education is a full-time, temporary role focused on engaging communities in addressing environmental challenges through various projects. This fellowship is part of the California Climate Action Corps, aimed at developing emerging climate leaders by providing hands-on experience in climate action initiatives, including urban greening and food waste reduction. Fellows will work closely with community organizations and schools to promote sustainability and environmental education.

Requirements

  • Must live in California by December 31, 2024.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age by December 31, 2024.
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be a US Citizen, US National, or lawful US resident.

  • Experience in Volunteer Engagement and Event Coordination.
  • Knowledge of climate change mitigation and environmental policies in California.
  • Excellent organizational, writing, interpersonal, and speaking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain school greening projects to foster sustainable outdoor spaces.
  • Recruit, train, and engage volunteers for school garden initiatives.
  • Develop case studies and support schools in establishing vibrant garden programs.
  • Lead education and outreach efforts on food waste management and native plant cultivation.
  • Conduct focus groups and provide training for the Santa Clara County Youth Climate Initiative.
  • Track program data and analyze results to quantify climate impact.
