About The Position

The Climate Adaptation Advisor is responsible for the strategy, coordination, and execution of all aspects of Climate Adaptation initiatives, including CPUC compliance, in close coordination with key stakeholders and business units across SDG&E. The role involves developing project requirements, facilitating team meetings, tracking project invoicing, and providing public-facing presentations when required. The primary focus is on climate change adaptation innovation and strategy alignment, which includes wildfire mitigation program advice, cross-departmental coordination, community collaboration, and climate change impact analysis, including complex climate modeling or interpretation of models. The Climate Adaptation Advisor will serve as a subject matter expert across all climate change impacted business units, including regular executive-level engagement.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Climate Adaptation, Atmospheric Sciences, Project Management, Business, Communications or equivalent experience.
  • 3 years of related experience in climate analysis, atmospheric sciences, project management, energy management, business management, or program specific work.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Proactive, flexible, and attentive to detail in collaborating with others, dealing with issues, and prioritizing workload.
  • Successful track record in meeting aggressive project deadlines in a highly stressful environment.
  • Self-starter with the ability to independently exercise critical thinking while weighing company risk.
  • Ability to work effectively individually or in a team environment.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and SharePoint.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree in Climate Adaptation, Atmospheric Sciences, Project Management, Business or related field.
  • Formal education or equivalent work experience in project coordination.
  • Familiarity with project management and coordination principles, procedures, and concepts.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on wildfire mitigation, customer resilience, and climate adaptation project activities in close collaboration with project managers, management, and leadership.
  • Initiate relevant communications, plan development, contract revisions with supply management, and project status updates with respect to the approved budget.
  • Independently exercise critical decision making with regard to project activities with significant company impact and climate change risk mitigation.
  • Execute project responsibilities including communication plan execution, vendor coordination, training, and occasional field work.
  • Coordinate project governance responsibilities including requirement gathering, invoice processing, dispute resolution, and project/initiative documentation.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in climate change adaptation and present at various internal and external meetings, including after-hours events.
  • Participate in staffing outreach events; support seminars, education, and training as needed.
  • Serve as liaison between SDG&E's sustainability team to ensure broader organizational alignment.
  • Respond to and support after-hours incident response activities in person or remotely, as required.
  • Maintain active status as an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) responder for any incident involving adverse weather conditions or wildfires.
  • Perform other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
