About The Position

The Clerkship Coordinator is responsible for ensuring high quality education in the light of changes in medical practice and expectations of educating students. This role involves the day-to-day administration of the clerkship and working directly with the Clerkship Director. The Coordinator acts as a student advisor, advocate, and policy expert for the clerkship, serving as a bridge between the medical school and the departments, as well as between the USCSOMG and the regional affiliated sites. The position also involves assisting with the department's education activities.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three (3) years administrative or office support experience.

  • Understanding of the GME program and ability to interpret policy and practices to medical students.
  • Knowledge of requirements of the program and compliance with guidelines for the Liaison Committee for Medical Education.

Responsibilities

  • Support students, faculty, and clerkship directors to assure that the clerkship programs are managed appropriately.
  • Responsible for scheduling required medical student clerkship and electives, including management of all schedules (students and sites).
  • Direct medical student orientation and distribute all materials related to rotation schedules.
  • Ensure programs and student experiences meet curriculum standards.
  • Manage student work hours and collaborate with off-site programs to ensure compliance with policies.
  • Build, maintain, and monitor operational budget regarding educational activities.
  • Act as a resource for medical students, including troubleshooting and resolution of issues.
  • Organize new courses in consultation with appropriate faculty and Assistant Dean of Clinical Clerkship education.
  • Arrange course logistics including preparing, proctoring, and grading clerkship examinations.
  • Ensure course evaluations are developed, prepared, conducted, and analyzed.
  • Organize and attend faculty retreats, faculty development sessions, and educational meetings.
  • Plan, organize, and implement training and development programs for medical students.
  • Serve as the first line of contact for M3 and M4 medical students and address student concerns.
  • Ensure that student evaluations are prepared by faculty and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Act as the first line of contact for outside sites regarding the medical clerkship program.
  • Oversee the website and other program materials, providing direction to other staff involved with the clerkship programs.
  • Ensure that the program operates in an environment where all medical students are treated fairly.
