About The Position

The Clerk Retail Inventory Control position at Safeway involves managing the receipt of products from vendors, ensuring accuracy in inventory and invoices, and maintaining a high level of customer service. The role requires effective communication with vendors and the ability to operate various equipment for inventory management. The clerk is responsible for maintaining the organization and security of the receiving and storage areas while adhering to company policies and safety standards.

Requirements

  • Ability to maintain composure and be courteous in customer interactions.
  • Good interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to follow written and oral instructions accurately.
  • Physical ability to lift and maneuver objects up to 80 lbs.
  • Ability to operate equipment such as power lifts and pricing guns.
  • Basic mathematics knowledge and understanding of company policies regarding inventory control.

  • Experience in retail inventory management or similar roles.
  • Familiarity with DSD vendor processes and systems.

Responsibilities

  • Receives deliveries from DSD vendors and verifies accuracy of invoices.
  • Champions customer service programs to meet Division goals.
  • Logs deliveries into the computer system and breaks down loads from suppliers.
  • Transports products to storage, freezer, cooler, or sales area as needed.
  • Ensures cost, quality, and inventory controls by verifying orders against invoices.
  • Reconciles vendor invoices to costs in the computer system and inputs discrepancies.
  • Balances receiving information and transmits it to the general office for payment.
  • Maintains invoices and reports according to the record retention schedule.
  • Reviews and accepts only proper orders from outside sales representatives.
  • Prevents shrink, damage, and spoilage of products, repairing or pricing damaged items as necessary.
  • Responsible for the security, sanitation, and organization of receiving and storage areas.
  • Operates related equipment such as hand trucks, power lifts, and pallet jacks.
  • Performs training duties and may assist with ordering, stocking, and pricing in absence of other clerks.
