About The Position

The Clerk in the Motor Vehicle Department assists the Tax Assessor-Collector's Office in providing customer assistance in processing vehicle registration and title transfers. The position requires remarkable customer service skills and knowledge of applicable laws and procedures. The work hours are Monday to Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM, with additional hours as required.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Minimum one year related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of county government operations, fiscal and budgeting policies, and federal, state, and local laws governing the area of assignment.
  • Skill in communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
  • Proficiency in using initiative, discretion, and decision-making within established procedures.
  • Basic mathematical calculation skills.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and various software applications.

Nice To Haves

  • Valid Texas Driver's License.
  • Attained Professional Designation Certification from the Tax Assessor-Collectors Association of Texas within three years.

Responsibilities

  • Provides remarkable customer service while processing titles of motor vehicles and trailers as well as registration of motor vehicles and trailers.
  • Informs and guides customers consistently and accurately on required documentation for transactions.
  • Prepares and processes vehicle titles for dealers.
  • Remains current on all applicable laws, procedures, and requirements from the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and Texas Tax Code.
  • Assists the Property Tax Collections Division in collecting property tax payments as needed.
  • Attends and participates in meetings and conferences as required.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.
