About The Position

The Materials Management Clerk - Central Supply supports safe, efficient patient care by managing the receipt, storage, distribution, and inventory of medical and surgical supplies. The clerk works closely with Nursing staff, Purchasing, and vendors to maintain optimal inventory levels and compliance with regulatory standards.

Requirements

  • Basic computer skills and experience with inventory management systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret preference cards and supply nomenclature.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Knowledge of medical/surgical supplies and inventory control practices.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Basic computer proficiency; experience with inventory/ERP systems preferred.
  • Effective communication and customer service skills.
  • No educational requirement and 6 months to 1 year relevant experience

  • 1–3 years of experience in healthcare materials management, central supply, or surgical services

Responsibilities

  • Receive, inspect, and document incoming medical supplies and equipment for accuracy, damage, and expiration dates.
  • Stock, rotate, and replenish supplies in storerooms and clinical areas using FIFO/FEFO practices.
  • Pick, pack, and deliver supply orders to patient care units, perioperative areas, and ancillary departments.
  • Maintain accurate inventory records within materials management or ERP systems (e.g., item master, par levels, lot/serial numbers).
  • Perform cycle counts and participate in physical inventories; investigate and resolve variances.
  • Monitor backorders, substitutions, and recalls; communicate issues promptly to supervisors and clinical stakeholders.
  • Adhere to infection prevention, safety, and quality standards (e.g., proper storage conditions, clean/dirty separation).
  • Support waste reduction initiatives, expiration management, and cost-containment efforts.
  • Collaborate with Purchasing, Receiving, Sterile Processing, and Nursing to ensure continuity of supply.
  • Operate material handling equipment safely (e.g., pallet jacks, carts).
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and compliant supply environment.
  • Follow hospital policies, Joint Commission standards, OSHA requirements, and manufacturer instructions for use (IFUs).
  • Maintain documentation related to recalls, lot tracking, and temperature monitoring as applicable.
  • Demonstrates System Values in performance and behavior.
  • Complies with System policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as may be assigned.
