About The Position

Harris County Housing & Community Development provides life-enhancing projects and programs to residents of Harris County. Our services include spurring community investment through the provision of homebuying programs, partnering with community members and housing developers to build diverse housing options that uplift communities and offer other assistance that support community building. The Clerk II position involves screening clients for eligibility for Community Impact Case Management services, collecting documents, explaining the intake and eligibility process, processing requests for emergency assistance, and providing referrals to community resources to meet basic needs. The role also includes performing field duties such as delivering checks and letters, interpreting policies, and collaborating with community agencies to ensure clients' essential needs are met.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Two (2) years of experience as a case worker or having worked in a social services setting
  • Valid Driver's License (Texas upon hire)
  • Good customer service skills
  • Good written and oral communications skills, in addition to math skills
  • Skills to draft correspondence and chronologically document files
  • Word processing skills and the ability to learn applicable software programs
  • Skills to maintain quality control over work assignments
  • Ability to read and interpret regulations pertaining to the administered programs

Responsibilities

  • Prescreens clients for program eligibility to determine if rental assistance can be provided
  • Assess clients for program eligibility and prepare rental assistance files and request payments
  • Conduct 30-day follow-ups with clients after clients exit the program
  • Communicate with clients and landlords to obtain documentation
  • Enter information in the database including demographic information, enroll clients in the different programs, complete case notes, assessments, email, uploads files among other required tasks
  • Attends Eviction court to assess clients in need of rental assistance and perform other duties as needed
  • Assist with data quality reviews and case reviews for monitoring/audit visits
  • Other duties as assigned
