The Clerk I (General) performs routine clerical tasks in accordance with clearly defined procedures and established guidelines. This position completes repetitive administrative steps in a prescribed or slightly varied sequence to support office operations. The role requires attention to detail and adherence to established processes but involves minimal subject-matter knowledge. Requirements

  • Approximately one (1) to four (4) years of experience in clerical, administrative, or office support roles.
  • Ability to follow detailed written and verbal instructions.
  • Basic proficiency in office equipment and standard computer applications.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks accurately and efficiently.
  • Effective communication skills appropriate to routine office interactions.
  • Ability to work under general supervision in a structured environment.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine clerical tasks following detailed and specific procedural instructions.
  • Code, sort, and file documents in alphabetical, numerical, or subject-based filing systems.
  • Open, sort, and distribute incoming mail and correspondence.
  • Post simple information to logs or individual accounts, including basic data entry.
  • Calculate and post standard charges or entries to departmental accounts as instructed.
  • Operate basic office equipment, including photocopiers, facsimile machines, mailing equipment, and multi-line phone systems.
  • Utilize basic computer programs to complete assigned tasks.
  • Maintain organized paper and electronic records.
  • Follow prescribed sequences of steps while exercising judgment in selecting the appropriate procedure for routine tasks.
  • Perform other routine clerical duties as assigned.
