About The Position

Guides and participates in identified areas to ensure accurate and timely processing of USDA meal benefit applications as well as applicable nutrition services reporting. Interacts in a positive manner with department, interdepartmental staff and the general public. Requirements

  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience in a public school system and familiarity with USDA Child Nutrition Programs Required
  • Must have the ability to work with confidential information, have excellent organizational skills, work with zero to minimal errors, must be self-motivated and pro-active.
  • Must be comfortable and proficient working in a computer based environment.
  • An excellent work attendance history is mandatory.
  • Willing to be available and flexible as needed in meeting seasonal and peak timelines.
  • Strong interpersonal and public relations skills necessary for assisting and communicating with 150+ Nutrition Services employees, interdepartmental staff, district wide personnel, State Department of Education staff and the general public.
  • Ability to multi-task prioritize, set and accomplish goals.
  • Ability to provide suggestions for increased efficiency in work tasks that will work within established departmental and MNPS policies.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares annual USDA meal benefit application for printing and distribution. Prepares parent meal benefit eligibility status notification letter.
  • Assists with procurement of supplies needed to perform duties. Distributes meal benefit applications to all school sites prior to school opening.
  • Processes meal applications and accurately determines student’s eligibility status. Runs pertinent processes to update applicable file information from Department of Human Services.
  • Maintains training and communication to stay current on applications scanning processes. Establishes and meets timelines for data collection and reporting.
  • Attends training and is proficient in all software and tools.
  • Knows, follows and accurately communicates USDA federal regulations related to meal benefits. Maintains confidentiality of meal eligibility status information per federal law.
  • Knows, follows and accurately communicates MNPS district policies. Conducts application verification following federal guidelines and meeting appropriate timelines.
  • Troubleshoots software and hardware errors and provides communication to Nutrition Services I.T. staff as needed. Conducts cross training and oversight as needed in meal application processing for office account clerks and other temporary substitutes during the peak times for application processing.
  • Prepares and provides department reports related to meal eligibility status statistics. Maintains records to meet federal review and audit standards.
  • Maintains confidentially standards, alerts supervisor to any information inquiry and releases information only through approval and within MNPS Policy and guidelines.
  • Multitasks, prioritizes and completes assignments in moderately pressure oriented office environment. Maintains professional phone courtesy and assists in answering office telephones.
