NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue is America's oldest public hospital, established in 1736. Requirements

  • A high school diploma or its educational equivalent.
  • Six (6) months of full-time satisfactory clerical experience and/or experience interacting with the public, such as processing sales; taking, processing, and delivering orders; obtaining and dispensing information; listening to and resolving customers concerns, problems, and complaints; and/or performing related customer service activities.

Responsibilities

  • Performs moderately difficult and responsible clerical work in maintaining and checking various kinds of records both in electronic and paper form.
  • Complete unit activity and other required logs; notify Admitting Office of admissions, discharges, transfers.
  • Process paperwork related to patient admissions, transfers and discharges and enters information in appropriate forms.
  • Maintain designated areas with instructional pamphlets and booklets; post notices on bulletin board; remove outdated materials from bulletin board and ensure that board is maintained in a neat and organized manner.
  • Coordinate requests for messenger service grouping urgent and non-urgent errands.
  • Participate in cardiac arrest activities and other unit emergencies as directed by clinical staff or Administration.
  • Organize and maintain unit documents files; maintain a safe environment for patients by ensuring the enforcement of safety policies.
  • Attend continuing education programs/training as scheduled; assist in the proper handling of patients' protected health information to ensure HIPAA compliance; maintain tidy work area; provide rotating clerical coverage as needed.
  • Arrange for transportation of patient within the hospital setting.
  • Precepts/orients new hire clerks. Completes orientation checklist and competency.
  • Performs moderately difficult data entry and retrieval using a computer and/or supervises and instructs staff in such routine functions.
  • Assists to improve care delivery through the participation in performance improvement projects; attends and participates in clerical staff meetings, unit based meetings, hospital wide projects, in-services and trainings.
