About The Position

Apply for this seasonal employment opportunity today! DESCRIPTION OF WORK As a Clerical Assistant 2, you may perform the following duties of this position: Lifts and carries trays of mail. Sets up work area according to assigned job. Sorts tax returns according to tax type and form type. Assembles packs of coupons and checks for remittance processing. Determines timeliness of documents based on postmark date. Reviews checks for negotiability by noting the presence of an acceptable payee and ensures the payment amount matches the accompanying document. Removes questionable or incorrect returns/documents from production and forwards the documents to the appropriate area for further processing. Collects packs of work from designated areas and performs a quality control review. Pushes carts to distribute work to appropriate areas for further processing. Adjusts size of tax document(s) using photocopier, paper cutter, and/or scissors to meet scanning requirements. Compiles all full page returns into tax specific batches, adding appropriate header and/or separator sheets, and distributes work to the appropriate areas for further processing. Based on your skills and training, you may also be asked to assist in the Mail Room, Scan Room, or Data Operations: Mail Room - opening mail on Opex mail opening machines and dispersing opened mail to the correct sections within the Bureau. Scan Room - Scan sorted full page and coupon mail and check remittances on IBML imaging equipment. Data Operations - Data entry of all pertinent tax form and check remittance information into Intelligent Capture software using a computer keyboard. The Clerical Assistant 2 in this position will demonstrate a commitment to the service-oriented culture of the Department, apply Lean thinking in day-to-day tasks, will be mindful of internal controls and risk management when changes are made to a process, treat others equitably, and adhere to diversity and inclusion program requirements in the workplace, along with other duties as assigned or required. Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. Free Parking at the Brookwood Street Facility These positions are only available in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, PA. The program runs approximately January through June. Individuals in these positions supplement the permanent workforce and have the potential to lead to permanent, full-time employment. Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position. Salary: Selected candidates who are new to employment within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania will begin employment at the starting hourly rate of $18.46 (before taxes). Requirements

  • Six months as a Clerical Assistant 1 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration); or
  • Graduation from high school; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions
  • This position will have access to Federal Tax Information (FTI) and is subject to the provisions of IRS Publication 1075 (Pub 1075) which requires you to pass an enhanced background check prior to beginning employment. Under Pub 1075, acceptance of a conditional offer of employment will require submission to and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to: a fingerprint-based federal records check; a PA State Police clearance; a check of local law enforcement agencies where you have lived, worked, and/or attended school within the last five (5) years; and a citizenship/residency verification.
