The Technical Librarian at Sandia National Laboratories will lead and manage the Technical Library services and collections, supporting various mission areas of the Labs. This role involves developing a vision and strategy for modern research library services to enhance the work of world-class science and engineering researchers.

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and activities of the Technical Library ensuring a high-quality customer experience.
  • Evaluate and measure progress, ensure that schedules are met, assign and track projects, establish and monitor budget and costs, and monitor expenditures for budgetary compliance.
  • Ensure availability of both traditional library reference and research services as well as lead the creation and adoption of new services and technologies.
  • Evaluate information and research service needs and collaborate with management to develop a strategy for library services and collections in order to meet the evolving demands of the California site's research and development activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an American Libraries Association (ALA) accredited program or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Knowledge of and experience with aspects of modern libraries including collection development and management, acquisitions, cataloging, metadata control, document delivery, inter-library loan, reports, electronic resources, and references.
  • Experience working in a science, engineering, technology, or national security environment.
  • Active U.S. DOE Q-level security clearance.
  • Reference experience and knowledge of print and electronic resources in science and technology.
  • Knowledge of scientific, technical, and patent databases, and related scientific resources.
  • Knowledge of local, national, and international information sources along with current trends, issues, and methods of information access to library resources as well as emerging technologies.
  • Excellent organizational, time management and planning skills.
