About The Position

SUMMARY: Lead Operator for Combo Truck used to clean sewer lines and sanitary manholes throughout the wastewater collection system. Performs heavy manual labor and operates any required mechanical equipment used by Field Services Teams. Understand the total operation of the collection system to include line location, root control, inspection and repair methods. Communicates both orally and written to supervisors and to customers. Insures safety guidelines are met during all phases of operation. Exercises responsibility for upkeep and preventative maintenance of all mechanical equipment used by Team. Attend all seminars and training given by Columbus Water Works. In addition, all other functions and responsibilities as assigned. Employee will be required to perform on-call duties on a rotating schedule. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited to the following: Operate mobile equipment to clean sanitary lines and work with the supervisors to assist Data Collection, Stop Up, and Construction Teams to remove blockages. Insure the equipment is inspected daily and is in operating condition. Receive job assignments and organize work to minimize time necessary for completion of each job assignment. Review assignments and inspect work areas to determine type of work required and best method. Direct crew member in the set-up and operation including safe traffic control measures. Oversees operation of all Combo Truck equipment and trains crew member in safe equipment operation. Assemble appropriate suction tubes and nozzles and/or high-pressure nozzles to remove unwanted grit and debris in lines. Transport and dump collected wastewater and grit at an approved location. Recommend measures to improve operations, equipment performance, and quality of service. Analyze and resolve work problems, or assist workers in solving work problems. Maintain accurate daily logs of all work performed and enter work order information into CMMS. Supervise the cleaning and washing of vehicles and equipment as needed. Performs on-call duties. From time to time, this employee may be called upon to perform other duties as deemed necessary by his supervisor. Must be able to use the GIS system to locate CWW infrastructure and provide feedback to GIS department on inaccuracies.

Requirements

  • High School graduate or GED.
  • Three years’ experience in Wastewater Collections or construction.
  • Valid Driver’s License and good driving record.
  • Must be able to obtain Fort Benning Access required.
  • Ability to read and understand operating instructions, safety procedures, standard operating procedures, schematic drawings, etc.
  • Ability to communicate directions to subordinates in order to get job done.
  • Ability to receive and follow directions.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to draw and read all graphs types.
  • Ability to apply commonsense to carryout instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.
  • Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

Nice To Haves

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred.
  • Wastewater Collection System Operator Certification preferred.
