About The Position

We are looking for a Clean-up Equipment Operator II. This position will operate a variety of light to heavy vehicles and equipment used in the cleanup of City neighborhoods, streets, islands, alleys and sweeping/washing City Streets. The successful candidate will be required to operate equipment in other areas, as well as assist on an as-needed basis in garbage collection operations. Incumbent may be required to be an acting lead of a crew. This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a CDL Driver license. This position may work non-traditional hours, varying work schedules and are expected to be on call for specified times during the snow removal season. The Public Services Urban Services Division enhances the safety and accessibility for residents and visitors of Salt Lake City by ensuring ordinances and laws are observed to keep people safe. They also help keep public spaces like downtown, Sugar House, and North Temple clean and well-maintained. Requirements

  • Two years’ related work experience operating equipment associated with Skid Steer operations and/or cleanup operations.
  • One-year paid experience operating landscaping equipment, such as: bobcat, trimmers, saws, shovels, rakes, hoes, mowers, trimmers, and snow throwers
  • One-year paid experience operating heavy pickup truck.
  • Possession of a valid Commercial Driver License (CDL) or ability to obtain within six months of hire or driving privilege card.
  • Flagger Certification may be required.
  • Knowledge of preventative maintenance required for the equipment which will be operated and the ability to detect the need for, as well as make minor repairs and tool and equipment adjustments.
  • Visual demands required to read street signs and markings, instructions, and safety rules.
  • Ability to write and perform basic arithmetic calculations to compute mileage, tonnage, time, etc.
  • Ability to work and relate well with co-workers, supervisors and the general public in varying circumstances.

Responsibilities

  • Operates a full range of light to heavy construction equipment and tools required for various cleanup applications. (low complexity: 3/4-ton pickup trucks, chain saws, hedgers, chemical sprayers, power sprayers, weed eaters, blowers, shovels, rakes, tractor mowers.) (Medium complexity: transport, leaf trucks, bobcat, Unimog, sander plows.)
  • Rotates from one piece of equipment to the other based on operational needs.
  • Tests tools and test drives all potential equipment purchases and makes recommendations to field supervisor.
  • As cleanup operator participates in cleanup programs, or acting as laborer/flagger, picking up and hauling away various refuse.
  • Is responsible for transporting signs and barricade equipment to and from job sites.
  • Daily refuse.
  • Performs snow removal duties in assigned district in accordance with the City's snow removal programs.
  • Evaluates and documents the operating condition of and performs routine maintenance on assigned equipment prior to its use.
  • "Trouble shoots" and makes minor repairs in the yard or on the job site and refers major repairs to fleet management.
  • Completes routine forms, i.e., equipment logbooks, equipment check sheets, weigh tickets, repair tickets, storm records, load reports, and land fill trip response documents.
  • Participates in the cleanup of special projects such as parades, and other events.
  • Intermittently lead work crews coordinating with a supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
