About The Position

The Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) is seeking an intern to assist with the implementation of an EPA Clean Ports Grant at the New Bedford Marine Commerce Terminal. The terminal is a purpose-built heavy-lift facility supporting offshore wind projects and various marine cargo operations. The intern will work under the supervision of the Terminal Director and Terminal Manager. The ideal candidate will be a detail-oriented, proactive, and adaptable individual with an interest in the maritime industry, clean energy, and business operations. The intern will gain valuable experience in facility management, environmental management, marine operations, financial processes, and stakeholder coordination.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently completing a degree in communications, public policy, marine studies, environmental science, or a related field.
  • Other educational and professional experiences will be considered.
  • An interest in maritime commerce, offshore wind, facilities management, environmental management, or clean energy.
  • Experience planning and hosting public meetings and community engagement opportunities.
  • Familiarity with the Microsoft Office suite of applications and similar software.
  • Prior experience or coursework related to project management, finance, or operations.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask, prioritize, and work independently in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team in a fast-paced setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly adapt to new tasks and responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Support the MassCEC Terminal Manager and consultant in developing community engagement strategy, workforce analysis, air quality communications plan, and stakeholder training.
  • Assist in environmental management to reduce emissions throughout the Terminal and community.
  • Become familiar with marine terminal operations and support financial tracking.
  • Assist with the preparation of special reports and presentations.
  • Analyze current methods of reporting and propose improvements to the terminal team.
  • Research and propose innovative business development initiatives.
  • Meet with OSW industry stakeholders and research the future of the industry, focusing on port and logistics needs.
  • Participate in operational meetings, take meeting minutes, and track action items.
