About The Position

The Gilbert School is seeking an enthusiastic and student-centered Middle School Science Long-Term Substitute Teacher to join our dynamic teaching team for the remainder of the 2025-26 school year. This position has the potential to transition into a full-time, permanent role for the 2026-2027 school year. The ideal candidate will be passionate about teaching science through hands-on learning, inquiry, and real-world applications. The candidate should be eager to engage middle school learners and contribute to a positive, collaborative school culture.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Science, or a related field (required).
  • Connecticut teaching certification in one of the following areas: General Science (034), Biology (030), Chemistry (031), Physics (032), or Earth Science (033)
  • Prior teaching or student teaching experience at the middle school level preferred.
  • Strong communication, organization, and classroom management skills.
  • Commitment to the mission and values of The Gilbert School.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior teaching or student teaching experience at the middle school level preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Teach middle school science courses (Grade 7) in alignment with NGSS and The Gilbert School's curriculum.
  • Develop and deliver engaging, inquiry-based lessons and laboratory experiences.
  • Foster a safe, inclusive, and positive classroom environment that encourages exploration and critical thinking.
  • Assess student learning and provide constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and families to support student success.
  • Participate in team meetings and professional learning opportunities.
