About The Position

The Long-Term Substitute (LTS) English/Language Arts Teacher at Windsor Locks Middle School is expected to create a flexible program and a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth. The teacher will establish effective rapport with students and motivate them to develop the skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for education in accordance with each student's ability. The role also involves establishing good relationships with parents and other staff members.

Requirements

  • Must have valid Connecticut Certification Number: 015 English (4-12), 215 English Middle School (4-8), 102 Remedial Reading and Remedial Language Arts (Grades 1-12).
  • Preference will be given to applicants with previous Language Arts (English) teaching experience at the middle grades level.

Responsibilities

  • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  • Plans and delivers a curriculum that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  • Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  • Collaborates with colleagues and staff to continuously improve social studies experiences.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and media that meet the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Strives to implement the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  • Assesses and provides feedback to students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct.
  • Develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  • Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested.
  • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  • Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.
