About The Position

LEARN, Southeastern Connecticut's Regional Educational Service Center, invites candidates to apply for an anticipated part-time Long-Term Substitute TESOL Teacher opening. General Scope of Responsibility The Long-Term Substitute TESOL Teacher is responsible for educating students and supporting teaching and instruction through coaching, professional development, and reporting. Relationship Within the Organization The Long-Term Substitute TESOL Teacher is responsible to the principal(s) and the Director of the Program.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in related field required.
  • CT Certification 111-Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) PK-12 OR Early Childhood Certificate required.

Responsibilities

  • Teach ELL students through planning and individualizing instruction to meet student needs.
  • Collect and provide data regarding student achievement and inform students of the basis of assessment.
  • Partner with teachers/instructors to support effective instruction for English Language Learners.
  • Communicate with parents and the greater community about learner needs and successes.
  • Assist in the completion of state mandated documentation.
  • Meet professional responsibilities listed in the Connecticut Teacher Competencies.
  • Promote self-awareness, self-respect, appropriate behavior and responsibility.
  • Maintain professional attitude in working with others.
  • Effectively manage student behavior.
  • Participate in and contribute to school programs, projects and professional activities.
  • Follow guidelines with regard to recordkeeping, documentation, and reporting.
  • Model appropriate social skills and behavior.
  • Foster self-worth and independence in students.
  • Assign duties and monitor teacher assistants and other persons assigned to the classroom.
  • Support program and agency goals.
  • Perform other duties associated with the position as directed by administration.
