About the position

Pearson School, a grades 3 - 6 elementary school, is seeking a passionate, forward-thinking STEAM Innovation Teacher to lead our students in inquiry-driven, interdisciplinary learning experiences that integrate science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics. This position also includes managing and evolving the school's library media center to support 21st-century skills, digital literacy, and equitable access to information. This unique hybrid role empowers a certified educator to cultivate creativity, critical thinking, and a love for learning-both through innovative STEAM instruction and by serving as an instructional leader in media literacy and research practices.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver hands-on, project-based learning experiences across STEAM disciplines, aligned with state and national standards.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary learning that encourages innovation, design thinking, and real-world problem-solving.
  • Maintain a makerspace or innovation lab, ensuring safe and effective use of materials and technology (e.g., robotics kits, 3D printers, coding tools) to promote learning, creativity, and collaboration.
  • Support student participation in STEAM-related competitions, clubs, or showcases.
  • Attend professional development and training related to STEAM programs and methodologies, staying abreast of current research.
  • Curate and manage a diverse, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate collection of print and digital resources.
  • Foster a reading culture by promoting a love of reading and learning.
  • Teach students how to access, evaluate, and ethically use information and technology.
  • Ensure the library functions as a flexible learning space for collaboration, research, and exploration.

Requirements

  • Current and Valid Connecticut Teacher Certificate.
  • Extensive work experience in STEM/STEAM preferred.
  • Evidence of at least three years of exemplary classroom teaching experience.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • A proven track record in the use of a rich array of instructional methods, the analysis and use of data and technology to improve instruction, and the ability to build professional relationships, solve problems, and plan collaboratively.
  • Evidence of Inquiry-based instructional experience.
  • Evidence of planning, organization, and time management skills.
  • Deep understanding of Engineering Principles, Inquiry-based Instruction, NGSS, AASL and CCSS.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with teachers regarding student learning.
  • Desire to continue learning and developing the curricular program as it relates to STEAM and innovation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience managing a school library/media center.
  • Knowledge of coding, robotics, 3D design, or other emerging technologies.
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders to support cross-curricular initiatives.
