About The Position

Kitsap Mental Health Services (KMHS) is seeking a Classroom Lead to support students enrolled in our Madrona Day Treatment program by providing intensive behavioral, therapeutic, and academic interventions in a structured, team‑driven environment. In this role, you will work closely with students experiencing mild to severe behavioral challenges—including those who may be physically or verbally aggressive—while supporting teachers, therapists, and program staff. You will help create positive learning environments, guide behavior management strategies, and ensure students receive high‑quality academic and therapeutic support. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Child Development, Psychology, social services, or behavioral health field. OR Five or more year’s relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Intermediate (minimum 3 years of job-related experience)
  • Experience working with children within the structure of an intensive, milieu-based program.
  • Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration.
  • Per RCW 28A.400.303, employees of contractors with school districts that “have regularly scheduled unsupervised access to children” must go through FBI fingerprinting.
  • Madrona requires a Food Handler’s Permit, preferred for Sequoia Program.

Nice To Haves

  • Specialist (minimum 5 years of job-related experience)
  • Experience working with the Special Education population is strongly preferred.
  • Educational or classroom management experience preferred.
  • The capacity to work well with children and families.
  • Awareness of or working knowledge of Cognitive/Behavioral therapy, Rational/Emotive therapy, behavioral modification, applied behavior analysis, and development theory is strongly preferred.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, clients, organizations, and the public.
  • Communication ‑ Communicates clearly and concisely.
  • Computer skills ‑ Ability to operate a personal computer, fax machine, printer, and copier proficiently.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed productivity standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively as a team member.
  • Able to assist in building positive working relationships with staff of all agency departments.

Responsibilities

  • Provide one‑on‑one and small‑group behavioral intervention and tutoring for students with diverse behavioral and academic needs.
  • Respond to crises using approved therapeutic interventions and support the treatment team in stabilizing students.
  • Implement behavior intervention plans with therapists and teachers, using reinforcement strategies and structured behavior supports.
  • Participate in parent consultations and attend IEP meetings to connect academic goals with therapeutic interventions.
  • Support daily classroom operations, including coverage schedules, materials prep, and coaching staff on behavior management and crisis response.
  • Provide academic or therapeutic instruction when teachers or therapists are absent to maintain consistency for students.
  • Help deliver enrichment activities such as field trips, wellness classes, recreation, and social‑skills groups.
  • Assist with transportation needs, including occasional student transport or driving between program locations.
  • Oversee Madrona Day Treatment kitchen operations including inspections, stocking, meal coordination, and support of student store activities.
  • Lead coordination and administration of state‑mandated academic testing, ensuring logistics, accommodations, and secure testing procedures.
  • Prepare instructional aids and assist special education teachers with curriculum delivery and academic support.
  • Document student progress and behavior accurately, monitor IEP‑related academic progress, and safeguard student confidentiality.
  • Assist with materials and planning for transitions into or out of the program; attend transition meetings when appropriate.
