An instructional assistant supports students in meeting their educational goals under the supervision of the classroom teacher; performs a variety of educational and support services to help achieve productive learning experiences; provides guidance and encouragement to help students pursue their intellectual, social, and emotional potentials; promotes the inclusion of students with disabilities into regular classrooms and school activities; recognizes each professional contact as an opportunity to promote a positive impression of the educational service center. Serves as the substitute teacher in the absence of the teacher. The classroom programs is designed to serve elementary students for whom communication is a high need and is applicable to low incidence disabilities, including Autism Spectrum Disorders. Our goal is to help each student develop skills that will allow him/her to more fully participate in school, community, and family activities; to communicate needs and ideas; to learn; to develop relationships; and to express themselves as individuals. The classroom team includes Intervention Specialist, Instructional Assistants, and built-in support from Occupational and Speech Therapists and a Behvavior Consultant Specialist.
