As the designated state museum of natural history, NHMU has the incredible opportunity to provide educational experiences in an amazing building that showcases Utah’s spectacular views and houses the state’s unparalleled objects and artifacts. This is an entry-level position, temporary position, that could become a permanent part time position. The NHMU Youth and Family Programs Assistant is responsible for assisting with the set-up, clean-up, supply prep and organization for our award-winning summer camp program. Program assistants are provided training in communication, critical thinking, and collaboration as well as informal education strategies and classroom management. A successful candidate will have an outgoing personality, be self-directed, have a passion for making a difference in a child’s life, and a thirst for knowledge. The work schedule starts in early June with staff training. Summer Camp begins the week of June 10 and runs through the week of August 12. There is no camp (and therefore no work) the weeks of June 17 and July 22. We have two 3-day weeks during July 1 and August 12. Facilitators work weekdays from about 7:45am-4:45pm, M-Th. Fridays will have staff attending a morning staff meeting. Schedules may adjust slightly. Requirements

  • This is an entry-level position.
  • Training will be provided.
  • Must demonstrate an interest in learning about child development and guidance; a willingness to take direction from the assigned teacher; willing to obtain a food handlers permit, TB test, Bureau of Criminal Investigation ( BCI ) background check, first aid training are required.
  • Demonstrated human relation and effective human relations skills are also required.

Responsibilities

  • Works with department staff to assure program quality.
  • Assists with program logistics and activities.
  • Assists with the delivery of supplies and the set-up and clean-up of lab spaces.
  • Assists with supervision of participants.
  • Delivers extraordinary customer service to all program participants and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.
