Classroom Assistant, MD Unit - Southeast Local School

About the position

The Classroom Assistant position is for the 2025-26 school year at Southeast Local Schools. This is a full-time role requiring 37.5 hours of work per week. The assistant will work closely with students, particularly those with special needs, to facilitate their participation in classroom activities and support their daily living skills.

Responsibilities

• Assist the student in participating with classroom activities
• Help the student with daily living skills, including removing coat, zipping, buttoning, tying shoes, and toileting
• Assist with behavior interventions and reinforcement activities as directed by the teacher
• Supervise children in various settings such as halls, restrooms, playground, during gross motor activities, snack/lunch, and boarding the bus
• Set up and clean up specific centers in the classroom (art, music, fine motor, etc.)
• Perform all other duties as assigned

Requirements

• High School Diploma
• Previous experience and training with students with special needs (Autism Spectrum Disorder) preferred
• An issued ODE educational aide permit, or able to obtain a permit from the Ohio Department of Education
• Successful completion of all pre-employment screenings
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable
