About The Position

St. Paul’s Lutheran School is fully accredited by the State of Iowa Department of Education, offering preschool, traditional kindergarten and foundational kindergarten through grade 6 in a unique faith-filled environment. Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Willingness to take classes/participate in training as needed
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of appropriate practices in early childhood development.
  • Able to demonstrate success in working as a team member or independently
  • Possess effective and strong communication skills (oral/written)
  • Able to demonstrate ability to work will with young children
  • Able to walk, squat/kneel, sit on floor, see, hear, speak with children to assistance in children’s Health and Safety.

Nice To Haves

  • CDA or para-educator (preferred)
  • Experience in an early childhood setting/working with children (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Works with individual students and/or small groups student to reinforce learning of content or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
  • Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing content or skills based on a sympathetic understanding of the students, their needs, interests and abilities.
  • Operates and cares for equipment used in the classroom for instructional purposes.
  • Helps students master equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
  • Assists with the supervision of students during emergency drills, assemblies, field trips and escorts students around the building.
  • Reads to students, listens to the students read, and participates in other forms of oral communication with student.
  • Assists the students in the library, music, art, PE, and Spanish.
  • Assists the teacher with parent communication, daily journals, etc.
  • Checks and records the student’s attendance and other charting duties as requested by the teacher.
  • Alerts the regular teacher to any problem or special information about students.
  • Serves as a source of information and help to any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
  • Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of fully licensed teachers.
  • Participates in in-service training programs, as assigned.
  • Performs other duties related to the students/classroom, as requested by the supervising teacher.
  • Perform other duties as required or as assigned by the principal or teacher.
