About The Position

At the Community Action Council of Howard County (CAC), we have a mission to diminish poverty and enable self-sufficiency for all Howard County individuals, families, and children in need. We take action towards this mission by focusing on five critical services: housing assistance, food assistance, energy assistance, weatherization assistance, and early childhood education. CAC impacts our local society by changing lives and helping create a pathway through and out of poverty or just providing a hand up when one is needed. Who You Are At CAC, a Classroom Aide supports Infants, Toddlers, and Preschool classrooms. This individual will be responsible for supporting a learning environment based on sound developmentally appropriate practices. The ideal candidate for this position will need to adhere to the education, health, safety, and nutritional practices of CAC's Early Childhood Education (ECE) Program.

Requirements

  • Valid high school diploma or GED certificate or Infants & Toddlers Child Development Associate (CDA)
  • Must be at least 19 years old to apply
  • 45 hours - Child Growth & Development Birth-Age 12
  • 45 hours – Infant & Toddler Curriculum
  • 9- hours - Communication Skills including all Children and the ADA, Basic Health and Safety Training
  • 1+ years of experience with children, ages 0-36 months
  • Able to read, write, comprehend, and speak English
  • Able to use Office Suite programs and use academic platforms on an as-needed basis
  • Able to work a split shift schedule which includes both morning and afternoon hours
  • Able to maintain a safe environment for up to 22 people. This includes but is not limited to the physical ability to evacuate students and clients during disaster drills and emergency situations.
  • Able to move quickly in order to respond to children who are very active and may need redirection in order to ensure their safety and/or the safety of others in the environment

Responsibilities

  • Supports the implementation of a daily classroom program that provides a quality teacher and child-initiated activities in both large and small groups, indoor and outdoor play, and timely and predictable transitions
  • Makes timely requisitions for health, safety, and classroom supplies and cleans play areas
  • Is responsible for setting up and taking down equipment
  • Documents attendance and understands the ECE student attendance policy
  • Represents a positive role model for others by maintaining the highest level of professional and ethical behavior throughout interactions with both internal and external customers.
  • Attends work regularly per assigned work schedule and in accordance with Agency policy.
  • Complies with all ECE Program Performance Standards and Maryland State Department of Education Standards.
  • Supports the home language, culture, and family composition of each child by creating a culturally and linguistically appropriate classroom.
  • Works cooperatively with others including all staff, supervisors, administrators, co-workers, community professionals, clients, and the public.
  • Invites parents to become an integral part of the program, by providing opportunities for parents to participate in classroom and agency activities.
  • Attends and participates in in-service training, staff meetings, and other activities to facilitate professional development.
  • Other duties as assigned
