About The Position

Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health is seeking a Classroom Aide/1:1 to make a positive difference in the lives of children and adults with developmental disabilities. This role offers the opportunity to work in a classroom with low student-to-staff ratios, helping individuals with developmental disabilities achieve their highest potential and complete daily activities and long-term goals. Devereux Advanced Behavioral Health New York provides programs and services for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and dual diagnoses. Located in Mount Kisco, NY, the Classroom Aide/1:1 is responsible for the supervision and support of an assigned student within the education program. This includes supervising one student throughout the entire school day in all instructional and leisure activities while the student is present in the school building. The aide will also assist the assigned student with activities of daily living, such as toileting and other self-care activities as appropriate. Additionally, the 1:1 Aide will facilitate the student's participation in small group or individual learning activities, provide prompting for new skills, practice maintained or generalized skills, and implement behavior support plans as needed for their assigned student.

Requirements

  • HS diploma/GED with one years of related experience.
  • Valid NY Drivers License.
  • Be flexible, patient, energetic, creative, and have a sense of humor.
  • Have a strong passion for working with and helping children and adults with special needs.
  • Pre-employment physical required.
  • Significant and frequent amounts of walking, sitting, stooping, bending & standing required.
  • Frequent planned, outside activities causing exposure to sunlight and heat.
  • Speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate effectively by phone or in person at normal volumes.
  • Vision adequate to read correspondence, computer screen, forms, etc.
  • Good manual dexterity.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor degree or Associates degree with one (1) year of related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervision and support of an assigned student in the education program.
  • Supervise one student across the entire school day in all instructional and leisure activities while the student is present in the school building.
  • Provide assistance for their assigned student in completing activities of daily living, including toileting, menstrual care (for females), and other self care activities if appropriate for that student.
  • Facilitate student's participation in small group or individual learning activities.
  • Provide prompting for completion of new skills and practice on maintained or generalized skills.
  • Implement behavior support plans as appropriate for their assigned student.
