About The Position

The National Laboratory of the Rockies ( N LR )'s National Security Research Oversight Office ( NSRO ) i s seeking a Classification Analyst (CA) to join our Office of Classification Team. The National Security Research Oversight Office ( NSRO ) at N LR supports the Laboratory’s n ational s ecurity research portfolio by ensuring that N LR employees understand their role in the protection of sensitive U.S. Government information. This candidate will need a broad educational and/or experiential background in the sciences for a competent understanding of the information requiring sensitivity protections. All N LR Classification Analysts (CAs) have completed or will be to complete the Department of Energy ( DOE ) General Course for Classification Officers/Analysts ( CO/CA ) Training .

Requirements

  • Relevant Bachelor's Degree and 9 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant Master's Degree and 7 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant PhD and 4 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience. Or, relevant JD and 4 or more years of experience or equivalent relevant education/experience.
  • Applies extensive technical expertise, and has full knowledge of other related disciplines.
  • Contributes to the development of new concepts, techniques and standards.
  • Considered internal subject matter expert.
  • Extensive knowledge of laws, regulations, principles, procedures and practices related to specific field.
  • Excellent leadership, project management and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to use various computer software programs.
  • Must meet educational requirements prior to employment start date.
  • Active TS/SCI or DOE Q/SCI security clearance with a current investigation and the ability to maintain a DOE Q/SCI security clearance is mandatory for this position. Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE O 472.2A for additional information.

Nice To Haves

  • Working familiarity with DOE and Other Government Agency classification guidance systems
  • Previous experience as a Classification Analyst with DOE CO/CA training certification

Responsibilities

  • R esponsible for working collaboratively and collegially with peers in the N LR Office of Classification, supporting the Laboratory’s Classification Officer (CO) and successfully implementing the Laboratory’s Classification Program in accordance with DOE Order 475.2B , Identifying Classified Information , and Executive Order (E.O.) 13526 , Classified National Security Information .
  • This position requires in -depth review of information for classification and National Security concerns
  • The Classification Analyst must competently understand and utilize the vast classification guidance issued to the Laboratory via DOE and other U.S. Government sponsors, implementing c ognizant analysis of the diverse and often complex national security information requiring protection across the Laboratory
  • The NSRO CA will participate in and con duct derivative classifier (DC) training for the N LR DC program associated with the Field Intelligence Element ( FIE ) and provide guidance and support for DCs at N LR and especially wit hin the FIE
  • The CA will also assist in and conduct briefings for all cleared N LR personnel
  • As needed, the CA will collaboratively develop interpretive classification aids to assist the Laboratory’s DCs by summarizing classification guidance from various sources in the context of a specific, complex, and interdisciplinary problem/project/program
  • The position requires the senior analyst to mentor other staff
  • The senior analyst will collaboratively develop and implement comprehensive technical training for DCs supporting the Laboratory programs to identify classified aspects of work within specific programmatic areas
  • Some aspects of these program matic areas are conceptually novel from an information protection standpoint and will require close coordination with DOE and other respective Federal Government Agencies
