About The Position

At FCL Builders, we build more than just buildings, we build your career. We are an employee-owned and operated industrial and design-builder general contractor specializing in eCommerce, Manufacturing, Cold Storage, Data Centers, Warehousing and Distribution, Food Processing, and Life Sciences. Our 10-week Internship Program is designed to give students an immersive, hands-on overview of the industrial construction management process. Through a structured rotation across Pre-Construction, Production, and Field Operations, you’ll gain exposure to every step of the project lifecycle. Along the way, you’ll receive virtual professional development training, as well as bi-weekly mentorship meetings to help you grow both personally and professionally.

Requirements

  • Enrollment in an accredited undergraduate program in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field
  • Strong collaboration skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams
  • Effective communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Solid mathematical and problem-solving abilities
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Positive attitude, engaging in seeking growth opportunities, and new innovative solutions

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Prior construction management internship experience
  • Familiarity with CMiC, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Project

Responsibilities

  • Learn the proposal and budgeting process
  • Gain insight into design-build vs. plan-spec approaches
  • Review drawings and perform conceptual estimating
  • Conduct subcontractor scope reviews and clarifications
  • Perform quantity takeoffs and detailed breakdowns
  • Understand the importance of subcontractor communication
  • Review plans and identify scopes of work
  • Assist with bidding, buyout, and subcontractor selection
  • Learn about MEP subcontractors in design-build
  • Gain exposure to permitting and project documentation
  • Understand scheduling, project flow, and subcontractor feedback
  • Participate in project closeout processes
  • Review drawings and plans on-site
  • Attend pre-construction meetings with trades
  • Learn and apply jobsite safety practices, including PPE, inspections, audits, and toolbox talks
  • Participate in daily site walks and subcontractor meetings
  • Track project documentation and contribute to closeout
