About the position

The General Maintenance position at Central High School involves providing repair, maintenance, and preventative maintenance work. The role includes various set-up and tear-down tasks, assisting in the daily upkeep of District grounds and property, including buildings, walks, roadways, and equipment. The position aims to maintain the cleanliness and general appearance of District facilities, which may include restrooms, corridors, stairwells, locker rooms, classrooms, and offices.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain District grounds, including planting, seeding, watering, mowing, trimming, pruning, spraying, removing weeds, and laying out athletic field markers.
  • Perform special grounds operations, such as monitoring and setting irrigation boxes, digging water mains, and repairing pavement.
  • Maintain required records on chemical usage, plantings, and maintenance.
  • Clean, care for, and provide preventative maintenance on equipment.
  • Remove debris, litter, and weeds from District grounds, walks, parking lots, buildings, and roads.
  • Respond to routine work order requests, including repairing water leaks, replacing carpet tiles, and installing restroom accessories.
  • Assist with projects like plumbing/mechanical and electrical repairs, ceiling tile repair, and furniture assembly.
  • Arrange and set up furniture and equipment for activities.
  • Tear down and rearrange rooms/areas after activities.
  • Install and repair door hardware and perform preventative maintenance.
  • Repair and finish drywall.
  • Paint and prepare floors, ceilings, walls, equipment, and pipes as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED with previous experience in building maintenance.
  • Three years of direct, job-related experience in general maintenance operations.
  • Knowledge of custodial operations, methods, and procedures.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Basic computer literacy skills.
  • Ability to perform basic math computations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to solve practical problems.
  • Effective organizational skills and ability to work without direct supervision.
  • Possess a valid Michigan driver's license.
