About The Position

Great American Insurance Group's Excess Liability Division is looking for a Claims Technical Director to join their team. This individual will work fully remote from the USA. The division offers significant capacity of up to $20 million for both Lead Umbrella and Excess Liability placements, providing protection to companies of varying sizes. The role involves managing a book of Umbrella and Excess Liability claims, investigating and maintaining claims, and ensuring compliance with all state, legal, statutory, and regulatory bodies. The Claims Technical Director will also serve as a technical expert on products, provide training to lower-level positions, and interact with underwriting and marketing regarding claims trend issues.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 10 to 12 years of related experience.

Responsibilities

  • Manages a book of Umbrella and Excess Liability claims for significant size or complex product(s).
  • Investigates and maintains claims, reviewing and evaluating coverage and/or liability.
  • Secures necessary information in the investigation of claims.
  • Works toward the resolution of claims files, attending arbitrations, mediations, depositions, or trials as necessary.
  • May affect settlements/reserves within prescribed limits and submit recommendations to supervisor on cases exceeding personal authority.
  • Conveys highly complex information to all appropriate parties maintaining professional demeanor in all situations.
  • Ensures that claims payments are issued in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ensures compliance of claims handling pursuant to all state, legal, statutory, and regulatory bodies.
  • Serves as the technical expert on a product(s).
  • Evaluates and makes recommendations to executive management on internal and external issues of strategic importance to a product(s).
  • Accountable for achieving performance targets/business results.
  • Provides technical advice, assistance, and training to lower level positions, management and other functional areas.
  • Interacts with underwriting and marketing regarding claims trend issues.
  • May have responsibility for performance and coaching of staff and may have a participatory role in decisions regarding talent selection, development, and performance management for direct reports.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
