About The Position

The Claims Supervisor is responsible for the management and oversight of a dedicated claim unit in a manner that ensures the highest levels of customer service and job satisfaction. This role involves managing a dedicated claim unit to provide superior service in accordance with Midwest Best Practices, good faith settlement practices, and program management requirements. The supervisor ensures compliance with all applicable State and Federal regulations and effectively applies these requirements to claim activities and documentation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or 8 or more years relevant experience.
  • Strong communication, written, interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to execute detailed verbal and written instructions.
  • Strong knowledge of workers’ compensation claims procedures and state and federal law.
  • Ability to multi-task and respond to changing business needs.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
  • 2+ years of supervisory experience preferred.
  • Litigation experience preferred.
  • Relevant state licensing or ability to gain licensing required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a dedicated claim unit to provide superior service.
  • Ensure compliance with State and Federal regulations.
  • Utilize effective techniques for screening, interviewing, and hiring.
  • Develop team members in accordance with policy and set quarterly individual objectives.
  • Work with the Director of Learning & Development for continuous improvement.
  • Manage staff authority levels with the Director of Learning & Development.
  • Complete individual performance reviews and provide merit increases.
  • Ensure adherence to account service and special handling requirements.
  • Proactively handle complaints to achieve desired customer outcomes.
  • Triage new loss assignments and provide guidance.
  • Review and approve claims for conversion to and from medical/indemnity.
  • Maintain standard caseloads and adhere to productivity standards.
  • Oversee timely investigations and setting of reserves.
  • Review and approve reserves and settlement authority.
  • Oversee subrogation claims and approve claim coverage denials.
  • Ensure adherence to effective diary standards and timely review of tasks.
  • Complete audits and produce management reports.
  • Handle a caseload of 10-15 Serious/CAT claims.
  • Perform other duties and projects as assigned.
