Job Summary: The Claims Support Specialist utilizes their familiarity with the insurance industry, a thorough knowledge of processes and procedures, and technical acumen to answer client and provider questions, troubleshoot complex problems, and execute a variety of temporary and ongoing special projects.

Requirements

  • A high degree of accuracy and thoroughness of personal work.
  • Thorough knowledge of Brentwood Services’ claims processes and procedures, including job duties of the Claims Associate and Team Lead.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills required.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook required.
  • A High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Three years’ experience working in claims and two years supervising staff, or an equivalent combination of training, education, and experience.
  • A current and valid driver’s license within the state of practice.
  • The ability to read and interpret documents such as general business periodicals, ledgers, and procedural manuals.
  • The ability to respond to inquiries or complaints clearly and appropriately.
  • The ability to write routine reports and business correspondence.
  • The ability to effectively present information in one-on-one situations.
  • The ability to solve problems and deal with situations where limited standardization exists.
  • The ability to calculate figures/amounts such as discounts, interest, proportions and percentages.
  • Communication for this position entails minimal contact with external constituents up to 10% of the time and extensive contact with internal constituents up to 90% of the time.
  • The employee is regularly required to sit; stand; use hands to handle or feel; and talk or hear.
  • The employee is occasionally required to walk; reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • The employee may occasionally be required to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Candidates should be comfortable with an on-site presence to support collaboration, team leadership, and cross-functional partnership.

Responsibilities

  • Along with other Specialists, handle multiple high-volume email inboxes, including but not limited to Claim Reports.
  • Coordinate daily scheduled claims distribution to Claims Associates for setup; this includes all clients, all lines of business.
  • Execute temporary and ongoing special projects. This may include but is not limited to: Research involving claims; Research involving the medical bill review process; Recurring client projects, such as manual payment entries; Client requests for dedicated assistance and accessing client systems in order to process payments or carry out other clerical work; Other projects not described here.
  • Solve complex issues regarding clients or providers proactively and independently.
  • Fulfill loss run requests from clients, insurers, brokers, et al.
  • Assist Team Leads with training, support, quality, and performance duties and responsibilities as required.
  • Claims entry and phone queue as needed.
