About The Position

Sompo has a unique opportunity for a Claims Specialist in our US Casualty Claims team. Sompo is committed to providing outstanding claims service that delivers fair and appropriate outcomes for our insureds, efficient service, timely responses, and fast payment of agreed claims. We achieve this by establishing our claims team as an integral component of the underwriting process and aligning our claims professionals with each of our product lines and geographies. Our in-house insurance claims professionals work with our underwriters, risk control specialists, and distribution partners to build a collaborative relationship with each insured to understand each client's changing needs. This position will be based out of our Alpharetta, GA, Dallas, TX, New York, NY, Charlotte, NC, Garden City, NY, Purchase NY, or Morristown, NJ office. Requirements

  • College degree required.
  • 2-3 years insurance casualty claims experience with a proven record of effectively and efficiently managing a high volume of low to moderate severity claims.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills and ability to establish and expand working relationships with other departments.
  • Experience handling market quota-share, shared and layered, and excess claims.
  • Technical skillsets in commonly used claims systems and general office software (MS Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Strong ability to efficiently prioritize tasks and work autonomously as well as within a team.

Responsibilities

  • Review newly reported claims for potential exposure and route these claims according to triage/routing rules.
  • Provide coverage and analytical analysis of potential exposures, including liability and damages analysis, and establish appropriate reserves.
  • Communicate appropriate responses to management and underwriters on new losses.
  • Support underwriters and actuaries.
  • Manage counsel where assigned; develop and execute strategy to control expenses and resolve litigated claims.
  • Effectively represent the company's interests in meetings and negotiations.
  • Proactively manage correspondence, claim files, and maintain a current diary in compliance with company standards.
  • Maintain a high level of claim and industry related expertise.
