Summary The Claims Associate is responsible for reviewing documents received for all Life and Annuity claims, and adjudicating the claim in accordance with state regulations and company policy.

Requirements

  • 5+ years industry experience as a Claims Examiner, preferably in Health and Long Term Care claims; death claims for life and/or annuity product lines.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • LOMA Courses (expected) and ALHC (International Claim Assoc. designation a plus)
  • Will be expected to take ICA course work.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check that may include fingerprinting.

Responsibilities

  • Checks claim applications for completeness and accuracy.
  • Ability to adjudicate claims more complex in nature and with level of independence, including contestable claims and/or ABR/WP/DI claims.
  • Consults policy file to verify the information the claimant reports in a claim.
  • Interprets policy language to assure adherence to the legal document, consults the legal department when needed.
  • Authorized appropriate payment, denies the claim, or refers the claim to a more senior examiner.
  • May oversee the work of a less senior examiner as well as co-approve a claim.
  • Supports the training of new hires.
  • Comfortable working on multiple claims at the same time.
