Summary The Claims Advisor is responsible for reviewing documents received for all Life and Annuity claims, and adjudicating the claim in accordance with state regulations and company policy.

Requirements

  • 7-10 years as claims examiner, death claims for life and annuity, disability, waiver, long term care experience.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Ability to successfully pass a background check that may include fingerprinting.

Nice To Haves

  • LOMA Courses and ALHC (International Claim Assoc. designation) Preferred.
  • Will be expected to obtain ICA designations

Responsibilities

  • Has a thorough understanding of the various life, annuity and disability insurance products and/or riders in-force on the Company’s books.
  • A pioneer in new products: documenting, administering and processing for the first time.
  • Conducts or directs any necessary investigation to determine the extent of the Company’s liability.
  • Authorizes and directs settlement of claim payments for life, annuity, disability, accelerated benefits and/or long term care.
  • Responsible for the co-approval, authorization and direction of settlement in claims exceeding the single decision authority levels of other claims examiners.
  • Develops understanding and application of medical terminology, insurance law, tax law and financial principles.
  • Effectively communicates daily in writing and verbally with policy owners, agents, attorneys, beneficiaries, physicians in the review, approval or denial of all claims.
  • Acts as a resource for less experiences colleagues.
  • Works closely with management, law department, compliance department, reinsurance department and companies, actuarial, underwriting as well as others to maintain the contractual provisions and company practices.
