Position posted until a viable pool of candidates has been established EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Bachelor's degree, preferably in Risk Management, Insurance or Business Administration plus four years experience in the investigation and/or adjustment of claims for a public carrier, insurance company, or law firm. Extensive knowledge of the application of operating claims and general liability (tort) principles/practices. Must be highly skilled in investigating claims, evaluating liability, and negotiating with claimants, attorneys and professional providers. Ability to direct and guide the activities of others. In lieu of a degree, experience as described above may be substituted on a year-for-year basis. Candidates with a degree in Risk Management, or a related degree which included at least 18 hours of credit in risk management courses, may qualify with three years of experience. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Obtains information necessary to determine the Authority's legal liability in the most complex bodily injury, personal injury or property damage cases through observations of physical sites, interviews with witnesses, and reviews of medical and/or police reports. 2. Evaluates findings and prepares written reports documenting conclusions and recommending actions based on an analysis of the evidence. 3. Determines liability and extent of damages (property and/or personal), recommends monetary settlement, if applicable, and negotiates with claimant. 4. Ensures that all claim records and files are properly maintained. 5. Provides information and assistance to the General Counsel in the resolution of claims under litigation. 6. Provides guidance, coordination, training, and direction to lower level claims adjusters in the resolution of claims. 7. Carries out major assignments in conducting the operations of the business. 8. Performs work that affects business operations to a substantial degree. 9. Maintains diary review of claim files. 10. Available 24 hours to respond to on scene accident investigations of significant financial impact to MARTA. 11. Performs other related duties as assigned.
