About The Position

The Claims Specialist will join the Declaratory Relief Action (DRA) Team at AZRA, a specialty niche reinsurer. This role involves managing and documenting declaratory judgment claims, ensuring compliance with statutory guidelines and company best practices. The position requires a clear understanding of complex coverage issues and the ability to make informed decisions based on policy language and law. The Claims Specialist will work independently to develop and enforce litigation management strategies, analyze underlying claims, and collaborate with adjusters to identify resolution opportunities.

Requirements

  • 10-15 years of litigated claim handling experience in long tail claims with increasing responsibility.
  • Strong background in asbestos, pollution, health hazard (APH), and/or sexual abuse claims, including technical expertise and quantitative analysis.
  • In-depth knowledge of liability policy language and coverage interpretation.
  • Ability to work in a highly regulated environment and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
  • Discipline to work efficiently and independently in a remote environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong interpersonal communication and presentation skills.
  • Business acumen and understanding of the economic environment of long tail claims and the insurance industry.

  • Juris Doctor preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Efficiently manage and document declaratory judgment new loss assignments and reassignments in compliance with statutory guidelines and company best practices.
  • Make complex coverage decisions consistent with applicable policy language, law, and corporate position.
  • Develop, monitor, and enforce litigation management strategies for each claim.
  • Review and analyze underlying file materials, policies, and motions and pleadings independently.
  • Manage expenses and enforce budgets consistent with the scope of assignments to counsel and/or vendors.
  • Collaborate with underlying claim adjusters and quantitative analysis resources to evaluate litigated claims and identify resolution opportunities.
  • Explain Allianz's positions clearly and proficiently in depositions.
  • Stay informed on industry trends and identify issues in DRA and underlying files.
