The Claim Representative Trainee, Inside Property position at Travelers is an entry-level role designed to develop skills necessary for investigating, evaluating, negotiating, and resolving property claims of lesser value and complexity. The role involves completing a comprehensive training program that includes online, virtual, classroom, and on-the-job training, with the goal of progressing to a Claim Representative position. The trainee will handle first-party property claims, ensuring compliance with quality standards and state regulations while providing excellent customer service throughout the claim life cycle.

  • Completes required training program to progress to the next level position.
  • Handles 1st party Property claims of low to moderate severity and complexity as assigned.
  • Establishes accurate scope of damages for building and contents losses.
  • Investigates and evaluates all relevant facts to determine coverage, damages, and liability of claims.
  • Establishes timely and accurate claim and expense reserves.
  • Determines appropriate settlement amounts based on various evaluations and estimates.
  • Negotiates and conveys claim settlements within authority limits.
  • Writes denial letters and other complex correspondence to insureds.
  • Assesses extent of damages and manages damages through cost evaluation tools.
  • Maintains an effective diary system and documents claim file activities.
  • Manages file inventory to ensure timely resolution of cases.
  • Provides excellent customer service to meet the needs of all stakeholders.
  • Recognizes when to refer claims to Special Investigations Unit and/or Subrogation Unit.
  • Performs administrative functions as required.
  • Provides multi-line assistance in response to workforce management needs.
  • High School Diploma or GED and one year of customer service experience OR Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred or a minimum of 2 years of work or customer service related experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ownership attitude and customer centric response to all assigned tasks.
  • Verbal and written communication skills.
  • Attention to detail ensuring accuracy.
  • Ability to work in a high volume, fast paced environment managing multiple priorities.
  • Basic analytical thinking and judgment/decision making skills.
  • Experience in the insurance industry.
  • Familiarity with property claims processes.
