About The Position

Chubb is seeking a Claim Director on the Environmental Claims team. The Environmental team is part of Chubb Environmental Claims and provides specialized claim handling of first-party and third-party voluntary pollution claims. The Claim Director will report directly to an AVP of Environmental Claims. The Environmental Claims is part of Chubb Casualty Specialty. This is a role focused on the technical claim handling for Chubb insureds' nationwide. In this role you will handle first-party and third-party voluntary pollution claims. This role will be accountable for the handling and disposition of claims including investigation, coverage determination, reserving, negotiation, and settlement or trial strategies. This position will require some travel, as well as coordinating with and servicing both internal and external business partners. You will represent the company at meetings with management and business partners, as well as at mediations, arbitrations, settlement conferences and trials. In depth knowledge of environmental and casualty required.

Requirements

  • 2-5 years of direct claims handling experience required.
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental and casualty required.
  • Ability to work independently and assimilate learning materials on different subjects from various sources.
  • Excellent interpersonal communications and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to deal with customers and business partners in a professional manner.
  • Ability to make prompt, intelligent decisions based upon detailed analysis of complex issues.
  • Demonstrated strong relational skills, particularly in adverse or high-pressure situations.
  • A law degree is not necessary but recommended.

  • Environmental specialists strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Handle first-party and third-party voluntary pollution claims.
  • Accountable for the handling and disposition of claims including investigation, coverage determination, reserving, negotiation, and settlement or trial strategies.
  • Represent the company at meetings with management and business partners, as well as at mediations, arbitrations, settlement conferences and trials.
  • Develop and execute claim resolution strategies.
  • Recognize significant potential exposures on claims and prepare appropriate alerts to senior managers and internal business partners.
  • Provide exceptional service to internal and external business partners.
  • Analyze and identify coverage issues timely, preparing comprehensive coverage letters and communicating coverage positions to appropriate parties.
  • Direct and closely monitor cases with financial impact from inception through trial/resolution.
  • Timely set reserves within authority or make claim recommendations concerning reserve changes to management.
  • Travel to conferences, arbitrations, mediations and trials as necessary.
