About The Position
The English department of Towson University invites applications for a tenure-track, 9-month Assistant Professor position in Technical Communication beginning August 2025. This position is designed for candidates who are passionate about teaching and research in the field of Technical and Professional Communication. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the academic community through teaching, research, and service, aligning with the college's goals of impact, innovation, and engagement as it strives for R2 status. The Assistant Professor will have an instructional workload of six (6) course units per academic year, which includes teaching undergraduate courses in technical communication and courses within the Technical Writing & Information Design track of the M.S. Professional Writing program. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for advising 10-15 undergraduate students in the English degree program. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong potential for research, excellent teaching capabilities, and a commitment to service that supports the department's mission and the university's strategic objectives. The M.S. in Professional Writing program at Towson University serves over 50 master's students, while the English department boasts over 300 majors and more than 40 full-time faculty members. The university's location near Baltimore and Washington, D.C. provides numerous opportunities for service-learning and internships in various sectors, including government, technology, and nonprofit organizations. Candidates with industry experience in technical writing are preferred, and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse student body is essential.
