About The Position

The CJIN Service Desk (IT System Support) plays a pivotal role in ensuring the operational reliability of Montana’s Criminal Justice Information Network (CJIN) and associated programs, such as the Missing Persons Clearinghouse, AMBER Alert, and Concealed Weapon Permit File. This role supports law enforcement communication statewide through technical troubleshooting, user support, and monitoring critical operations. Requirements

  • Associate degree in information technology, criminal justice, or a related field.
  • One year of experience in help desk or criminal justice customer service experience
  • Equivalent combinations of education, certifications, or experience may be considered.
  • General understanding of electronic communication systems, basic computer troubleshooting, and database management.
  • Familiarity with computer systems, criminal justice flow of information, and related peripherals.
  • Awareness of data quality control, auditing methods, and privacy/security laws.
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities, especially in isolating and resolving system issues.
  • Ability to interpret and apply federal and state regulations regarding criminal justice information systems.
  • Proficiency in working with users of varying technical skill levels.
  • Capacity to explain semi-technical solutions in a clear, approachable manner.
  • Operating electronic data processing equipment.
  • Maintaining compliance with record-keeping and quality control standards.
  • Candidates must achieve CJIN certification within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Technical Support: Address statewide CJIN system issues, including network outages, state file outages, and software troubleshooting, escalating and monitoring issues as needed.
  • User Assistance: Guide CJIN users and agency IT staff through procedures, NCIC/Montana troubleshooting, browser configurations, and system testing.
  • Operational Monitoring: Actively oversee message queues, transaction failures, and terminal configurations while ensuring compliance with FBI Technical Operational Updates (TOU).
  • Critical Support: Provide offline log searches, validate records, broadcast administrative messages, and resolve hit confirmation violations to support investigations and maintain CJIN system integrity.
  • Data Management: Enter and validate concealed weapon permit records and criminal history dispositions within state databases.
