The Civilian Traffic Investigator plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and well-being of motorists within the City of High Point by providing essential non-emergency services. Responsibilities include assisting stranded motorists, directing traffic, and investigating vehicle crashes in accordance with state law. This position requires the successful completion of specialized training in traffic crash investigation provided by the North Carolina Justice Academy, as well as field training with an experienced law enforcement officer. Upon completion of both classroom and field training, the investigator will be responsible for actively monitoring radio dispatch for vehicle crashes, traffic hazards, and disabled vehicles, responding to incidents, assisting the motoring public, and completing all required state and local documentation. As this role involves direct interaction with the public, the investigator must wear a Body-Worn Camera during all citizen encounters and as mandated by departmental policy. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are essential for success in this position.
