About The Position

The position of Civilian Specialist is critical for the Sheriff's Office as a support function in the Detention Bureau and other divisions and may be assigned to other areas of the organization based on operational needs. This position provides support in the areas of lobby, booking desk, control centers, alarm monitoring, property room, inmate programs, classifications, court coordinator, and records. The position provides assistance to citizens and responds to emergency and routine calls for service in accordance with organizational policies and regulations under the general supervision of a superior officer. Civilian Specialists assist in providing an environment that is professional and humane for all inmates as charged to the Sheriff by Kansas State Statute. We are always looking for great people and have multiple openings for this job. Qualified applicants will remain as an active candidate for a period of up to 90 days after the close date.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Associate's degree in criminal justice, social services, or related field is preferred.
  • Six months of general work experience is required; 1-2 years of law enforcement related experience is preferred.
  • Attention to detail and basic mathematical skills are required.
  • Human relations/interpersonal skills are necessary.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and manage multiple concurrent projects and meet deadlines is essential.
  • Physical abilities including mobility, agility, strength, dexterity, balance, coordination, and/or endurance are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in law enforcement or related fields is preferred.
