As a Civil Engineer at Thornton Tomasetti, you will support the design and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects, contributing to every phase from planning through construction. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams using tools such as Autodesk Civil 3D or Bentley OpenRoads to deliver high-quality designs in compliance with engineering standards and client expectations. This role is ideal for an engineer looking to expand technical skills while taking on increasing responsibility within a dynamic and supportive team environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering (Master's degree a plus).
  • 3-6 years of hands-on experience in civil infrastructure design, preferably with roadway and/or utility design.
  • Proficiency with Autodesk Civil 3D and/or Bentley OpenRoads.
  • Familiarity with federal, NYS, and NYC agency guidelines and standards (e.g., FHWA, NYSDOT, NYCDOT, NYCDEP, NYCDDC, MTA D&C) preferred.
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification required; progress toward PE licensure expected.
  • Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and a collaborative mindset.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and analysis of transportation infrastructure projects, including roadways, utilities, and site development.
  • Produce detailed 3D models, plans, and documentation under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Coordinate with internal teams and external partners (planners, architects, and other engineers) to integrate civil designs into larger project scopes.
  • Perform calculations, technical reports, and quantity take-offs to support design development.
  • Participate in project meetings, supporting communication with clients and stakeholders.
  • Contribute to quality assurance by checking drawings, models, and deliverables for accuracy and compliance.
  • Continue professional development toward PE licensure, with mentoring support from senior staff.
