As a Civil/Structural Substation Engineer, you will be responsible for Civil and Structural Engineering related tasks in support of Electrical Substation design. This role involves performing structural steel, structure anchorage, and concrete foundation designs, generating structural steel and reinforced concrete details, and developing structural analysis models. You will also assist in the preparation of calculation reports, review steel and rebar fabrication shop drawings, and construction submittals. The position requires executing structural steel and concrete analysis, design, and detailing for transmission and distribution electrical substations with voltage classes up to and including 345kV. You will review and produce civil/structural design drawings including Site Plan, Grading and Drainage Plan, Foundation Plan, and Oil Containment Plan. The role aims to develop a self-directed autonomous level of responsibility under the supervision of a registered Senior Substation Civil/Structural Engineer.

  • Perform structural steel, structure anchorage, and concrete foundation designs.
  • Generate structural steel and reinforced concrete details.
  • Develop structural analysis models and design of steel structures and equipment support foundations.
  • Utilize in-house developed design tools for analysis and creating construction drawing information.
  • Assist in the preparation of calculation reports and packages.
  • Review steel and rebar fabrication shop drawings and construction submittals.
  • Execute structural steel and concrete analysis, design, and detailing for substations.
  • Review and produce civil/structural design drawings including Site Plan, Grading and Drainage Plan, Foundation Plan, and Oil Containment Plan.
  • Work towards developing a self-directed autonomous level of responsibility.
  • Bachelor's degree in civil engineering or Structural Engineering from an ABET accredited program or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer licensure or EIT certification with plans to obtain PE license within 2 years.
  • 2-6+ years of civil/structural substation design engineering experience, preferably at an engineering consulting firm.
  • Experience with Excel, Word, Mathcad, RISA3D, MFAD, L-Pile, EnerCALC, and AutoCAD.
  • Familiarity with standard building codes including IBC, ACI, AISC, ASCE 7, and AWS.
  • Experience with ASCE 113, NESC, or IEEE standards.
