This Opportunity This Opportunity WSP is currently initiating a search for an Experienced Civil & Stormwater Project Engineer for our Morristown, NJ office. The following location will also be considered: Newark, NJ and Lawrenceville, NJ . The candidate will be involved in projects with our Transportation & Infrastructure (T&I) Team in New Jersey and be a part of a growing global professional services firm. The successful candidate will be Team Player – Responsive, reliable, collaborative and able to step up to the plate when needed. Ability to coordinate and interface with clients, subcontractors and reviewing agencies. Strong technical capability involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations. Efficient in both technical writing and verbal communication. Values quality of technical and professional deliverables on projects and proposals. Your Role and Responsibilities Support various scale civil engineering projects as Stormwater Management (SWM)/Drainage/Hydrologic & Hydraulic (H&H)/Soil Erosion & Sediment Control (SESC) task designer, maintaining effective collaboration with multi-discipline design team and client to ensure quality project delivery. Interact with regulatory agencies, consultants, subcontractors, and clients in a confident and professional manner. Preparing engineering permit applications, reports, plans, specifications, estimates, construction support services and perform occasional field work. Collect, compile, and analyze data from the physical work site, surveys, record drawings, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, hydrologic analysis, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction. Apply high-level civil engineering techniques and processes to identify SWM/drainage/H&H improvement opportunities and feasibility, conforming with applicable rules, standards, and construction or operating permits, for various infrastructure project type in concept development, preliminary design, final design and construction phase. Assist with development and scoping of projects, participate in proposal preparation and marketing activities. Provide guidance and training to entry-level engineers. Pursue diversified knowledge of T&I and water resources principles and practices. Perform hydrologic and hydraulic modeling for floodplain mapping, SWM and drainage design according to applicable federal, state and local rules and regulations. Design a variety of SWM Best Management Practices (BMP) facilities and drainage system per applicable design criteria and guidelines. Design Soil Erosion & Sediment Control measures. Identify technical issues and take actions to mitigate risk. Your Experiences

Requirements

  • BS in Civil Engineering from an accredited University.
  • Passed FE exam, EIT certification preferred.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in Transportation and Infrastructure projects.
  • Proficient knowledge of water resource engineering principles, practices, process, design and construction of SWM BMPs, drainage design, stream hydrology and hydraulics, floodplain evaluation, and SESC measures.
  • Working knowledge of civil engineering on roadway design principals, grading and earthwork.
  • Ability to generate, review and supervise production of construction documents including, plans, details, specifications and estimate.
  • Experience in preparing and acquiring approval of NJDEP Permits (FHA/WFD/FWW), Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control certification, and/or similar federal/state/local environmental permits and approval in the NJ/NY/PA area.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software suite and CADD software such as MicroStation and/or AutoCAD.
  • Proficiency in HEC-RAS, HydroCAD, Bentley Pond Pack, StormCAD and Storm & Sanitary.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • MS in Civil Engineering or closely related discipline from an accredited University a plus.
  • NJ/NY/PA Professional Engineer License or the ability to acquire when necessary.
  • Competence in ESRI ArcGIS, AutoCAD Civil 3D/LDD and/or Bentley InRoads/OpenRoads Designer.
  • Familiarity with surface water H & H analyses software including HEC-1, HEC-2, HEC-HMS, WMS and/or EPA SWMM a plus.
