About The Position

With a strong focus on technical excellence, collaboration, and client satisfaction, S&ME is seeking a full-time Civil Staff Engineer to join our client Southern Company in their Energy center in Birmingham, Alabama to support their site work group. As a Civil Staff Engineer, you'll play a vital role in designing and developing projects for a wide range of projects with a particular focus on civil site work engineering design that includes grading plan design, hydrology and stormwater management systems design, roadway design, and erosion control planning and design associated with preparing construction drawing packages, calculations, and sketches.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, or a related field
• A minimum of 4 years of experience in civil engineering/water resources
• At least 1 year of experience as a project manager
• Engineer in Training (EIT) certification
• Basic business and technical writing skills
• Proficient in using AutoCAD Civil 3D for construction plan package development

Responsibilities

• Using AutoCAD Civil 3D to produce and prepare civil site work designs and construction drawing packages utilizing internally provided CAD templates, go-bys, and drafting standards.
• Limited travel may be required for site familiarity needed to support engineering designs and drawing packages. May be required to provide photo documentation during these visits.
• Maintain clear and effective communication with clients to ensure project goals are understood and met. Provide regular updates and address any client concerns promptly.
• Oversee project timelines, allocate resources, and ensure milestones are met. Assess project risks, review elements for completeness and accuracy, and determine appropriate design methodologies to achieve project goals.
