About The Position

STV has an immediate need in our Charlotte or Raleigh, NC office for a Civil / Roadway Engineer in our Transportation division. The successful candidate will provide professional design services for transportation improvement projects for municipal agencies and NCDOT. The role involves designing roadway geometry and details, drainage, traffic control, pavement markings, and signing for transportation infrastructure. The candidate will interact with client management teams, engineers in other technical disciplines, and marketing teams. Design will be done using MicroStation, with experience in Open Roads (ORD) being a plus. The candidate will coordinate design development and assist with technical direction to other design staff, ensuring quality deliverables within the established schedule and budget. Responsibilities also include assisting with the development of specifications, cost estimates, and technical reports, as well as establishing working relationships with client technical staff and project managers. The candidate will mentor supporting Civil design staff and apply roadway engineering principles to provide design for road and bridge projects, working with junior staff members and other disciplines for successful project production and execution. This is an excellent role for a creative, self-motivated, and detail-oriented professional that enjoys being a part of a team environment and would be a great opportunity for a design engineer to grow technical skills while also leading a multidisciplinary design team.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in all technical aspects of roadway design including highway, reduced conflict intersections, roundabouts, intersections, widenings, and bike/ped design.
  • Experience with using MicroStation and Geopak is required; familiarity with Open Roads Designer is a plus.
  • Familiarity with the latest edition of AASHTO Green Book and MUTCD.
  • Experience with NCDOT and other NC municipalities is a plus.
  • Strong inter-personal skills for client and other engineering discipline interaction.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
  • NC PE license is required.
